The Eye is an advanced laser system that uses a gaseous lense, using "ripples" in atmosphere to focus the beam. In space, it simply fires a focused laser beam. The Eye is in-fact a series of weapon designs, some contain the gunner, some do not, and newer models are run by computers, with gunnery officers approving targets for entire batteries of Eyes.
The Eye is made up of a transparent poly composite sphere as an outer shell, within that is an armored sphere protected by carbon composite and ceramic armor. There is a circular opening that allows cameras to feed data to the gunner, and the primary beam to reach targets. Within that sphere is the laser assembly, either a gunner or the computer/relay, and a series of motors that rotate the inner sphere.
